Day 1/2
The first days in Los Angeles
Stopping at The Biltmore **** for 2 nights.
Los Angeles. Synonymous with the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, this town also contains funky beach towns like Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Spend the afternoon and evening by the Ocean, hire a bike in Santa Monica and cruise along the boardwalk to neighbouring Venice Beach and back. Watch the sunset while grabbing dinner on Santa Monica Pier before shopping till late on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade.
Beverly hills and Hollywood await .
Head up the legendary Sunset Blvd to Beverly Hills, where you can shop with the Stars on Rodeo Drive and marvel at the area’s mansions. Further along Sunset Blvd lies Hollywood – stroll along the Hollywood Walk of Fame or hike up to the iconic Hollywood sign. Universal and Disney have world-famous theme parks in the city dedicated to the entertainment industry. For a more authentic behind-the-scenes experience, both Warner Bros and Paramount offer guided tours of their lots.
Day 3
Time to start your golden triangle road trip
The Golden Triangle is packed with great drives, and only time will tell which will be your favourite. Today, you’ll drive Big Sur, which many believe to be the best drive on the planet. Big Sur is 100 miles of dramatic coastal road, which twists around curvy cliffs, passing by scenic State Parks and spectacular vista pull-ins. The last 135 miles pass through vast farms and pretty mid-coast vineyards before returning to the Pacific Coast. Get an early start, and you’ll have plenty of time to explore.
Collect your car and hit the road. First up is surf-obsessed Santa Cruz and its famous Boardwalk. Further down Highway 1 lies Monterey, once famous for its whaling and sardine industry. Today, it focuses on marine preservation at the world-class Monterey Bay Aquarium. Monterey is also world-famous for its Whale Watching cruises. Complete the day with a short drive along “17-Mile Drive” to your hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea. This scenic toll road takes you on a quick tour past rugged beaches, millionaire homes and wind-blown cypress trees. Watch Seals bask in the sun and Sea Otters bob up and down in the waves.
Stopping the Night at Colton Inn **
Day 4/5
Arrive in San Francisco, California
After the morning fog lifts, one of the USA’s favourite cities will be revealed. Ride the iconic cable cars from one visitor attraction to the next; highlights include Coit Tower, Lombard Street and shopping in Union Square. Packed with Victorian charm and famous movie locations, your essential Road Trip Pack will help you prioritise San Francisco’s visitor attractions. After a full day of exploring San Fran, consider finishing the day with dinner in Chinatown, one of the oldest in the USA.
Explore the Fisherman's Wharf area for the day.
Fisherman’s Wharf, The Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island can all be enjoyed in a single day. Start the day by hiring a bike or tandem from Blazing Saddles, and then follow the bike path over the Golden Gate Bridge to the delightful small town of Sausalito. After returning your wheels, stroll through Fisherman’s Wharf and enjoy a well-earned meal in one of The Wharf’s many restaurants. To complete this epic day, we recommend taking a late afternoon or early evening ferry to Alcatraz Island.
Day 6
We head east to Mammoth Lakes via Yosemite.
Arguably the USA's best national park - hello Yosemite!
Yosemite National Park is nature at its absolute best. The most popular area of this epic National Park is the main “Valley” area with its gigantic rock faces, crystal clear waters and staggering vista points. Be sure to leave enough time to marvel at the giant redwood trees in Mariposa Grove .
No matter the season, Mammoth Lakes makes a perfect base camp for exploring local hot springs. Some 760,000 years ago, a massive volcano exploded in this region, creating a network of steaming water underground. Head east to Benton Hot Springs to relax in any of nine outdoor hot tubs at The Inn at Benton Hot Springs.
Day 7/8
We make our way to Death Valley and onto Los Vegas.
Death Valley has an extreme climate and geology, so start early or late to avoid the mid-day heat. This National Park’s roads are superb, dipping and leaning around curves before straightening out as you dip down to 85m below sea level in the salt flats of Badwater. You’ll then climb to finish your drive by the snow-capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada. It’s one of the longer drives on this Golden Triangle tour, but it’s a drive you’ll never forget as the landscape is so very different from back home.
After checking in to your glamorous Las Vegas hotel, get dressed up and hit the town’s tables, bars and restaurants – time to paint the town red.
A second day of luxury and fun in Las Vegas
If your head hurts after the night before, then relax by the pool or enjoy the hotel’s spa. If you’re ready for more action, check out your Road Trip Pack for a list of city attractions. In the evening, stretch your legs with a walk along the legendary ‘Strip’, book tickets to one of the incredible shows or take in some retail therapy. Before leaving Las Vegas, consider visiting one of the city’s legendary hotel buffets. Just be sure you’re hungry when you go; the vast range and high food quality will astound you.
Day 9
We make our way to the Hoover Dam and then onto our Rest hole at The Grand Canyon.
Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. Constructed between 1931 and 1936, during the Great Depression, You will have around 1 hours here then onto the Grand Canyon.
Imagine the Grand Canyon with no people. Just the psychedelic-colored canyon walls, the wind, and the river silent at the bottom of the gorge. That’s how it must have looked to the Native Americans who lived in and around the Grand Canyon 12,000 years ago, and to the Spanish explorers who laid eyes on the rift in the 16th century.
Fast forward to today, when more than six million people a year visit The Grand Canyon to experience its visitor centers, mule trips, train tour, helicopter rides, and more.
Day 10
Monument Valley and down to Indian Wells
Monument Valley, a red-sand desert region on the Arizona-Utah border, is known for the towering sandstone buttes of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. The park, frequently a filming location for Western movies, is accessed by the looping, 17-mile Valley Drive. The famous, steeply sloped Mittens buttes can be viewed from the road or from overlooks such as John Ford’s Point.
Indian Wells
The city derived its name from a historic Cahuilla Native American water reservoir, which served as a crucial water supply for nearby tribes. As early as 1820, the area now known as Indian Wells was the site of a thriving Indian village, as reported by W.P. Blade, a Smithsonian Institution geologist.
Day 11/12
We make our way to Tucson where we will be stopping for 2 nights.
Nestled in the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona, Tucson is the second-largest city in the state, known for its stunning natural beauty, rich Native- and Mexican American heritage, and bustling downtown area.
The Pima Air & Space Museum is one of the largest non-government-funded aviation museums in the world, making it an ideal destination for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike. It features approximately 400 aircraft and spacecraft from various eras, including a Wright Flyer, World War II fighters, and commercial airliners such as the 787 Dreamliner.
The museum spans 80 acres and includes not only vast outdoor hangars but also six indoor exhibits that display an array of aviation and space-related artifacts, models, and interactive displays for visitors to explore.
Kitt Peak National Observatory.
Located about an hour outside of Tucson, in the Quinlan Mountains, Kitt Peak National Observatory offers a chance to see the night sky like never before. This world-renowned astronomical observatory features the largest and most diverse astronomical equipment in the world.
Visitors can visit during the day or at night and participate in different tours or events depending on their level of interest. You can learn about the history of the observatory, and the invention of the telescope, take a guided tour of the observatory, or attend stargazing or moon observation sessions.
The Mission San Xavier del Bac is a stunning 18th-century church located nine miles south of Tucson on the Tohono O’odham San Xavier Indian Reservation. This Catholic mission, designated a National Historic Landmark, has a rich history dating back to the late 1700s and is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish colonial architecture in the United States.
Visitors can step back in time and enjoy the tranquillity of the interior, which is filled with original statues, murals, and carvings from the 18th century.
So loads to see and do you decide.
Day 13
We make our way to San Diego
San Diego is a city on the Pacific coast of California known for its beaches, parks and warm climate. Immense Balboa Park is the site of the renowned San Diego Zoo, as well as numerous art galleries, artist studios, museums and gardens. A deep harbor is home to a large active naval fleet, with the USS Midway, an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum, open to the public.
Day 14
We make our way back to Los Angeles staying in Beverly Hills time to relax and do as little or as much as you want.
Day 15
We head back to the Airport hand our cars back and head back to the UK.

Where better to get into the seasonal spirit than in one of Europe’s most beautiful, historic cities, which really comes into its own at Christmas time?

Cobbled streets, twinkly lights, delicious smells and chocolate box scenes – the Bruges Christmas market is like something out of a festive fairytale. It’s one of the best Christmas markets in Belgium, if not the whole of Europe. What’s more, it’s only around an hour and a half’s drive from our terminal in Calais, making Bruges the perfect festive getaway.

Book your trip to the Bruges Christmas market with LeShuttle – it’s just a 35-minute crossing from Folkestone to Calais.

About Bruges
It’s hard to stop waffling on about Bruges, mainly because it is so beautiful, especially at Christmas time. The medieval architecture, winding canals, bridges and perfectly preserved buildings seem to take you back in time. The ‘golden age’ of Bruges was in the 14th and 15th centuries, when it was a trading and artistic power. Walking around the city today, or seeing it from the water, you are steeped in reminders of that incredible history.

Where is Bruges Christmas market?
The Christmas market in Bruges is called ‘Winter Glow’, and celebrates all the different things you can do in Bruges during the festive season, in an inclusive event.

Markt
The main Bruges Christmas market is held in the Markt, the city’s market square. Here you'll find the huge Christmas tree, the chalets selling everything from food and drink to clothes and souvenirs, as well as all the cosy cafés, bars and restaurants that are lit up like gingerbread houses. You can even climb the 366 steps to the top of the 83-metre belfry and look down on everything from on high.

A serene view of a city square illuminated at night, showcasing historic buildings and a tranquil atmosphere.Savour the atmosphere in one of Markt square’s numerous bars and cafés

Simon Stevinplein
Wander over to the smaller square of Simon Stevinplein if you are looking for artisan crafts. Pick up a special souvenir at one of the many stalls showcasing hand-made gifts, like Christmas decorations. There is also a good range of food stalls here too.

Minnewater
Minnewater means ‘Lake of Love’ and it is one of the most romantic spots in Bruges – and during the Winter Glow festival it is the location of a floating ice rink in the middle of the Minnewater lake. There is a Winter Bar next to the ice rink where you can regain your composure after skating, or get some Dutch courage before you take to the ice!

Festive attractions
There is plenty of things going on in Bruges to entertain the family while you’re there for the Christmas market. The ‘Light Experience Trail’ features 10 different light installations as you walk through the blue illuminated light tunnel, and is a really special experience for the children. The kids will also love the special appearances from Saint Nicholas, the first by boat at the start of the Winter Glow festival, and then on December 6th, when he gives presents to the city’s children on Saint Nicholas Day.

Winter bites and beverages
The waffles, the hot chocolate, the sweet treats and alcoholic pick-me ups – we can’t lie, Bruges Christmas market is a delight for those who love their food and drink. It can get very cold in Bruges in December, which is great for the festive feels, but you’ll really appreciate the warm mulled wine or glühwein, so delicious with a chocolate-covered waffle (or any kind of waffle really). There is also nothing better than sneaking into a friendly bar to warm up. If you’re confused by the beer menu the bar tender will help you out. Belgian beer is full of flavour but much stronger than typical draught beers in the UK.

Bruges is famous for its lace and chocolate shops, so when you’re exploring the city, pop into a few traditional stores and get gifts for loved ones back home. Look out for the independent shops selling real artisan chocolate, like The Chocolate Line, which is where many of the locals get their chocolate fix. This shop is famous for its innovative flavours, such as chocolate and bacon, bitter ganache, marzipan and wasabi. Away from the Christmas market squares you’ll find boutique stores in the main shopping streets of Noordzandstraat, Zuidzandstraat and Steenstraat.

Seasonal events and entertainment
Winter is a great time to visit Bruges, as you avoid the summer crowds while enjoying the many winter events taking place. Bruges is quieter still after Christmas but this is often a good time to visit, as accommodation is cheaper. Each January, Les Costumés de Venise takes place, with people dressed in elaborate baroque costume parading the streets, accompanied by music, shopping stalls and children’s entertainment, such as face painting.

Getting to Bruges
Travelling to Bruges with LeShuttle could not be easier. Driving from our Calais terminal is a simple 1 ½ hour journey on the A16 and E40 motorway, and there are no tolls to pay. Find out more about driving in France and driving in Belgium.

Where to stay
There is no shortage of accommodation in Bruges, but if you are looking for a more unique experience why not try a guest house? Anna’s B&B is a beautifully-decorated bed and breakfast right in the heart of the city. The host provides guests with brilliant insider-information on where to go in Bruges. It’s possible to park outside, too, which is handy when you’re travelling with a car.

If you prefer to stay in a larger hotel, Hotel De Orangerie is housed in a beautiful 15th century cloister, overlooking the Dijver canal, with crackling fireplaces to welcome you after a long day walking around the city.
